Superintendent Marie Feagins of Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) has filed a police report after a tense confrontation with Dow McVean, co-chair of the Peer Power Foundation, following a meeting on August 8.
On August 8, Superintendent Marie Feagins was leaving a meeting at Bank America on Poplar Avenue when she was approached by Dow McVean. According to the police report, McVean wanted to discuss an unsigned contract with Feagins. The initial conversation took place inside the building, but the situation escalated when McVean approached Feagins again in the parking lot.
Feagins reported that McVean appeared visibly angry, which she could tell from his facial expressions. As McVean began to vent his frustrations about the contract, two witnesses intervened, shielding Feagins from McVean. Despite this, McVean continued to approach Feagins, causing her to feel intimidated and fearful. Feagins subsequently filed a police report detailing the incident.
Courtney Richardson, CEO of the Peer Power Foundation, acknowledged the incident but stated that he had never seen McVean act unprofessionally or aggressively. Richardson emphasized the organization’s long-standing relationship with the school district and expressed hope for continued collaboration under the new leadership.
The Memphis Police Department has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed against McVean at this time. MSCS officials have not yet commented on the incident, and McVean has also refrained from making any public statements.
The confrontation between Superintendent Marie Feagins and Dow McVean has raised concerns about the dynamics between MSCS and the Peer Power Foundation. As the investigation continues, both parties are expected to navigate the complexities of their professional relationship while ensuring the safety and well-being of all involved.
